‘Giant Step for Boy’
On a trip to Sri Lanka in 2003, we visited the village school where my dad studied as a child. My brother, just a small boy at the time climbed about the open buildings and stands. The steps our dad would have taken as a boy himself many years before.
One of my lasting impressions of Sri Lanka is of the textiles being created. In particular a shop in Columbo called Barefoot with a selection of shirts, saris and sarongs with amazing designs in vibrant colours and patterns.
This piece is part of a series that celebrates Sri Lankan textiles and patterns, the people we met and the places we visited in Sri Lanka.
